CHINA PEOPLE STREET
"China People Street" is a more direct translation of the three Chinese characters that refer to Chinatown.  Vancouver's Chinatown is one of the largest in North America.  Its preservation embodies our shared immigrant experience.  Over the ten years I've lived here, I've developed a growing attachment to Chinatown even though I'm part of the influx of people changing it.  The neighborhood is a dynamic evolving place- even the idea of preservation is fraught with difficult questions.  I focused on the fleeting moments of people interacting in the streets.  Within those moments are traces of something else as well; traces of memory reside like the figures that appear smoke-like in a coffee shop window or the sidewalk that shimmers with images of long ago.  They're reminders of a connection with a past without which we can't find our way forward.

These are small glimpses of the paintings.  Please contact the studio to view them in person.
